FFdefined
omplete lack of additional disposal area, the 100% replacement area for this project is
the primary disposal area and not a standby, open area as is typically the case.tly, if there is a failure of the primary disposal area, the restaurant and bar must close
ly. The tenants in the three apartments must not use any water and will have to relocate
time to a motel. The primary disposal area shall be excavated, the old receiving soils
excavated, engineered fill imported, new drain rock and piping installed, and the system
reinspected and approved by an EHD sanitarian. At this point in time, the facility and apartments
can reopen.
III. CONCLUSIONS
The filter bed design repair for this project has been severely limited by constraints within the
disposal area, specifically a 50 ft radius from a residential domestic well southwest of the subject
property. The 50 ft radius from the residential domestic well to the southeast of the property does
not encroach upon the future disposal area.
Because of these area constraints, the new filter bed area is now an approximate triangular area,
with a base of 33 ft,a leg ht. of 33 ft, and a hypotenuse length of 46 ft, for a disposal area of 550 ft .
This area is obviously deficient in comparison to the calculated area using the EHD Sewage
Standards Guidelines. However, there is no other alternative. Consequently, it is imperative
that water use in the restaurant bar and three apartment complexes be reduced and
maintained to an absolute minimum. Additionally, all plumbing fixtures should be checked on
a regular periodic basis (preferably monthly) for leaks using dye tablets. Low and ultra-low flow
fixtures should be installed, if not already done so, by a licensed plumber.
As referenced, it is a requirement of EHD that a water meter be installed on the incoming water line
from the domestic well serving the complex. This meter should be installed underground in a
Christy box to mitigate potential theft.
Also as referenced, the attached EHD repair permits found in Appendix E illustrate the disposal
field under existing paver stones. This paver stone area has a steel cover over it that is scheduled to
be removed and replaced under San Joaquin County Building Department permit. This septic
system repair applies to the disposal area under these existing paver stones, and adjoining disposal
area installed without a permit.
Septic tank hydraulic retention time calculations demonstrate that based upon an Average Daily
Flow(ADF)of 350 gallons, sufficient hydraulic residence time shall occur.
Page-4-
Chesney Consulting
