May 4,2004
NOA ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT NUMBER E04029A
Six transformers without pole numbers were observed on the subject property. Three pole-
mounted transformers were observed near the location of the former residential area. These
transformers appeared older than any others in the area, but no leaks were apparent. Three pole-
mounted transformers were observed near the well by the western agricultural pond. These
transformers had blue PCB-free stickers and appeared new.
Twelve pole-mounted transformers were observed along the property boundaries. All were white
and looked relatively new, but none had PCB-free stickers or pole numbers. One additional
white pole-mounted transformer was observed across Little John's Creek from the subject
property.
Land to the north of the subject property is open crop fields with two residences. Open fields
lie to the west. To the south are open crop fields, grazing land, residences, and a communications
tower. To the east are an open crop field, an orchard, and several residences.
A pile of pipes, metal, and other debris less than 50 cubic yards in size was observed to the
immediate east of the subject property. A small pile of tires was observed to the immediate
northwest of the subject property.
3.2 Past On-Site Sources of Contamination
No above-or below-ground on-site potential or known sources of contamination were identified
from past uses of the site, except for the following:
• Agricultural chemicals including methomyl, paraquat, aluminum phosphide, di-syston
(disulfoton),and thimet(phorate)were permitted for use on the subject property. All five
chemicals are highly toxic. Paraquat has the highest persistence of the five, with a
reported half-life of greater than 1,000 days.
3.3 Current On-Site Sources of Contamination
No above-or below-ground on-site potential or known sources of contamination were identified
from current uses of the site, except for the following:
'" • Two 1,000-gallon above-ground diesel storage tanks are present on the subject property.
One tank powers an agricultural well near the eastern site boundary, and the other appears
to power pumps at the eastern agricultural pond.
11
