L
LMarch 27,2006
NOA Project Number: E05144B
L
1/5.4 Discussion of Soil Lithology
LA visual inspection of the shall - ceps om on-site drilling indicates some potential for
percolation because of the lack o - ained soils enerally speaking, sandy soils have much
Lgreater potential for percolation than fine-grained or cemented soils.
A percolation test is the best method to determine the suitability of the soils. Please see the next
Lsection for percolation test results.
L /6-0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION
/6.1 Percolation Test Locations
LA site map indicating the locations of the percolation test holes is included as Plate 1 in the appendix
of this report. 41,iA cc j
I
/2 Number of Percolation Tests
One shallow percolation test was conducted on each parcel of the Site, and one deep percolation
. test was conducted on Parcel two and three of the Site, for a total of four shallow and two deep
p colation tests.
L 6.3 Boring Preparation and Presaturation
Two deep soil borings and three shallow borings were drilled on the Site with a truck-mounted deep
L rock augur rig on Match 21,2006. One shallow boring was advanced by hand-auguring on March
22,2006.
i
L /A 1.5-inch diameter PVC pipe with perforations on the bottom was used to measure the drop of
water in the percolation test boring. Approximately2 inch f" ea uravrl were placed in the
bottom of the open soil boring, then the PVC pipe was installed on top of the gravel. "Pea Gravel"
ti. was then used to backfill in the annular space.
L Presaturation of the percolation test holes occurred on March 21 and 22, 2006.The depth of water
used to pre-soak was 12 inches above the bottom of the borings.
/.4 Condition of Borings After Presaturation
L
After the 24-hour soak period, the presaturated holes were found to be intac end dry-on March 22
and 23,2006.
L
8
.44
.
L
