August 31, 2004
NOA Project Number: E04060A
5.0 SOIL PROFILE AND GEOLOGIC INFORMATION
5.1 Geology
The Site is depicted on the USGS Geologic Maps of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta (Atwater,
1982) as within a region of the Pliestocene Modesto Formation, which "consists of distinct
alluvial terraces and some alluvial fans and abandoned channel ridges." The southeast corner
of Site has been mapped as an area of"deposits of loose sand, silty sand and sandy silt" (Plate
7).
5.2 Soil Properties in the Vicinity
The surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the San Joaquin County
Soil Survey to be composed of Acampo sandy loam, 0 to 2 percent slopes, with a small area of
Devries Sandy Loam, drained, 0 to 2 percent slopes (Plate 8) (USDA, 1992). Table 4 presents
some selected properties of these soils:
Table 4.
- San Joaquin County Soil Survey -
Selected Soil Properties of On-Site Soils.
Soil Name Depth Unified Soil Classification Salinity Soil Perme- Septic tank
and Map (in) mmhos/cm Reaction ability absorption
Symbol pH (in/hr) fields
Acampo 0-19: Sandy loam,SM <2 6.1-7.8 2.0-6.0 Moderate:
sandy loam, 19-47: Sandy loam,sandy loam, <2 6.6-8.4 2.0-6.0 cemented
0 to 2% coarse sandy loam,SM pan.
slopes, 101. 47-49: Indurated — — —
49-60: Cemented — -- —
Devries 0-13: Sandy loam,SM <2 6.6-8.4 2.0-6.0 Severe:
sandy loam, 13-28: Sandy loam,fine sandy <2 6.6-8.4 2.0-6.0 cemented
drained,0 to loam,SM pan.
2%slopes, 28-80: Indurated – — —
149.
Note:The table descriptions do not necessarily reflect site-specific soil properties.
9
