_ August 31, 2004
NOA Project Number: E04060A
— 5.3 Soil Lithology Observed and Septic Applicability
Generally, the soil encountered in the boring is similar to the soils reported by the San
Joaquin County Soil Survey for the area (USDA, 1992). Table 5 presents the soil logs for the
3-foot deep soil borings.
Table 5.
Soil Boring Logs
— Boring Depth Interval Soil Type Unified Soil Classification
(ft)
P-1 0-3 Brown sandy silt SM
s P-2 0-3 Brown silty sand SM
P-3 0-3 Brown silty sand,slightly cemented SM
P-4 0-3 Brown sandy silt,slightly cemented SM
P-5 0-3 Brown sandy silt,slightly cemented SM
Mixed sand and silt soils often exhibit acceptable percolation rates. A more rapid percolation
rate usually accompanies a greater percentage of sand.
6.0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION
6.1 Percolation Test Boring Locations
Five shallow percolation tests were conducted on the Site. One passing test was conducted on
each of the four non-road parcels (22, 23, 24, 25). The road parcels (43, 44) were not required
to be tested. Please refer to the site plan for the exact percolation test ocations ate
6.2 Boring Preparation and Specifications
Three shallow soil borings were advanced on the Site by hand auguring. The borings for P-1,
P-2, and P-3 were advanced on July 22, 2004, the boring for P-4 was advanced on July 26,
2004, and the boring for P-5 was advanced on August 9, 2004.
A 1.5-inch diameter PVC pipe with perforations on the bottom was used to measure the drop
of water in the percolation test boring. Approximately 2 inches of "pea gravel" were placed in
the bottom of the open soil boring, then the PVC pipe was installed on top of the gravel.
Several feet of "pea gravel" were backfilled in the annular space.
10
