WASTE DISCHARGE REQUIREMENTS ORDER NO. 5-00-182 -2-
R.LAWSON ENTERPRISES DBA WILDROSE VINEYARDS
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
7. Activities at the winery include receiving, crushing and pressing of grapes, fermentation,
processing into finished wines, and distribution. A bottling line is planned for the future.
Wastewater from tank cleaning, grape crushing, stormwater, defrost water, and equipment/floor
cleaning water are discharged to the wastewater treatment system. However, the Discharger is
planning site improvements which will separate stormwater and tank defrost water from the winery
wastewater flow. A site map is presented on Attachment B, which is attached hereto and made part
of this Order by reference.
8. The Discharger estimated wastewater flow rates for tank wash water(1,500 gal/month), defrost
water(33,000 gal/month, generated only three months per year), and grape crush:cleaning water
(3,000 gal/month, generated only three months per year).
9. Winery wastewater flow is not individually metered. Due to a meter failure, flow rates for the
crush season are not available. Planned expansions and new site activities will result in increased
flow rates. Presently, flows are not adequately metered; these waste discharge requirements
include a provision for installation of a meter to determine the wastewater flow rate. Total flow
rates (WildRose, CFP, and stormwater) measured in 1999 are presented below:
Month Flow Rate (god) Comment
January, 1999 7,522
February, 1999 17,100
March, 1999 12,926
April, 1999 8,290
May, 1999 3,070
June, 1999 2,230
July, 1999 3,960
August, 1999 8,670
September, 1999 9,000 Estimate,meter broken
October, 1999 9,000 Estimate, meter broken
November, 1999 8,920
December, 1999 8,728
Data from WildRose Report of Waste Discharge.
10. Stormwater which falls on buildings or paved areas of the Discharger's facility is presently directed
into stormwater drains and is discharged to the wastewater treatment system. The Discharger is
planning to separate the stormwater from the treatment system flow.
11. Winery wastewaters (except defrost water) are screened at floor drains and flow through a two-
stage clarifier. Screenings and settleable materials are collected and disposed in trash dumpsters.
Presently, defrost water is piped into the wastewater flow downstream of the clarifier and upstream
of the treatment system. The Discharger is planning to separate the defrost water flow from the
treatment system.
