L
LDecember 5,2005
NOA Project Number: E05118A
The EPA's Restricted Use Products (RUP) Report"was searched for the chemicals reportedly
L applied to the subject property. Based on this source,it appears that,of the agricultural chemicals
reportedly applied to the subject property, only those containing fenbutatin-oxide,lambda-
1 cyhalothrin and methomyl are RUPs. The U.C. Davis Extension Toxicology Network
(EXTOXNET) web site's and the Pesticide Management Education Program (PMEP) at Cornell
University web sitei9 were consulted for additional information on these chemicals.
6. According to Cornell Pesticide Active Ingredient Information, Fenbutatrin-Oxide is a selective
organotin miticide used for long residual control of plant feeding mites on deciduous fruits, citrus,
L grapes, almonds, greenhouse crops, and ornamentals. This chemical has been restricted due to its
very high toxicity to aquatic organisms.
LAccording to EXTOXNET,lambda cyhalothtin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide and acaricide
L used to control a wide range of pests. It is moderately toxic in the technical form, but may be highly
toxic via some routes in formulation. Lambda cyhalothrin is moderately persistent in the soil
{ environment,with a field half-life close to 30 days in most soils (PIP, 1996).
L According to EXTOXNET,methomyl is a broad spectrum insecticide classified as an RUP by the
EPA because of its high acute toxicity to humans. Methomyl is highly soluble in water, has a soil
6 half-life of 33 days, and its adsorption to soil particles is weak to moderate. Consequently,
methomyl has been identified as a potential groundwater contaminant (PIP, 1993).
V. J.L6 Water Supply and Sewage Disposal System
In the Environmental Questionnaire,Mrs. Reinstein indicated that no wells or septic systems exist
L on the subject property. The EHD well and septic permit files were searched on August 23,2005 in
an effort to obtain copies of permits for any water wells or septic tanks on the subject property. One
permit was found on file for the address 99 East Blewett Road, issued to Allen Thomsen for the
L, installation of a 1,200 gallon septic tank in December of 1982 on a five-acre parcel.Another permit
was issued to Jason Peitz for the same address for the installation of a domestic well in June of 2002.
LThe address may have been incorrect because during a site inspection on November 11,2005, no
wells or septic systems appeared to exist on the property.A five acre parcel with the address 701
East Blewett Road,APN 255-180-12,belonging to Mary Thomsen may have been the associated
residence for the installation of this well and septic system. The installation location also appears to
be on the parcel 255-180-12 according to the location diagram depicted on the permit.
