Rainfall
The average annual rainfall in the area is purported to be 17.0 inches. The area has had higher rates
of rainfall in recent years. Rainfall records recorded by the NCDC Cooperative Stations were used as the
source for the new dairy site. Refer to Figure 3,Appendix I.I.
The 25 year, 24 hour storm event for this area is approximately 3.4".' Refer to 25 Year, 24 Hour
Rainfall Event,Appendix II.
The area is arid. The soil is classified as "moderately well drained'. The ground water is
approximately 10-18 feet below the surface, so it is safe to say that down gradient groundwater intrusion
from rainfall is not likely. The farmed properties involved with this dairy facility are all properly graded to
0.2%of fall to accommodate proper water flow and minimize water runoff and topsoil erosion.. All fields
have water return systems and are bordered to prevent uncontrolled runoff from the site. Clear rainfall
runoff from the fields is diverted to the white slough, which is located approximately 1 mile to the west.
Refer to Irrigation Map,Appendix ID.
t.Apicult"Waste ManWment Field Handbook USDA,SCS
°Western Design/David Avila 2001 7
