2 -
Rocky's Restaurant September 4, 1984
Attn: Mr. Rocco Benigno
Subject: Septic System and Filter Bed For
Rock 's Restaurant
Our recommendations for immediate action are as follows:
1) Expand the existing filter bed west as far as your
delivery driveway, and to the south as far as is
practical.
2) Construct a second filter bed on that area reserved
for future filter bed expansion, or upon such land
as may be leased from adjoining property owners.
3) Continue your filling of in the roadside ditch adjacent k
to your filter bed to avoid any standing effluent.
4) Replace your toilet fixtures with "low flow" type
fixtures if they are not already installed.
5) Set up a program to instruct your employees on water
conservation.
In the expansion of the existing filter bed and construction of the
new filter bed, a distribution box should be placed so that you can
alternate the use of the two filter beds, allowing one to dry out while
the other one is in use. Care should be exercised in the construction
of the filter bed; especially, if it is constructed over that area set
aside for expansion which is presently used to park trucks. A soils
engineer should be consulted as to the proper preparation of this ground
for use as a filter bed. An area which_ has never been compacted, which
you could lease from an adjoining property owner, would be much more '
suitable for a filter bed.
The filter beds should be graded so that rain water will run off
the filter bed area. Also, asphalt impregnated paper must be placed
over the filter rock under the soil to keep rain water from percolating
into the filter rock.
In your continued filling of the roadside ditch, care must be taken
so that the drainage is directed away from your filter beds into your
driveway areas and that no drainage areas are prevented from reaching
your drainage pond. This ditch appears to fall in the right--of-way for
Thornton Road. You or your Contractor should obtain an encroachment
permit from the San Joaquin County Department of Public Works before
continuing work in this area.
(Cont'd.)
