Solids, dissolved—Solids that are in solution. <br /> Solids, nonsettleable—Wastewater matter that remains in suspension for an extended period of time. <br /> Solids, settleable —The matter in wastewater that will not stay in suspension during a preselected settling period <br /> and settles to the bottom. <br /> Stability —The ability of any substance, such as wastewater, chemicals, or digested sludge, to resist chemical or <br /> biological change. <br /> Sump—A tank or pit that receives drainage and stores it temporarily. <br /> Tertiary treatment—Any process after the secondary stage which further reduces residual nutrients organics and <br /> solids. <br /> Waste sludge —Settled solids in the final clarification or settling chamber. <br /> Waste treatment plant—A collection of tanks, screens, filters, and other processing equipment with which pollutants <br /> are removed from water. <br /> Weir—A device used to control surface overflow from a tank, basin or chamber. <br />
