' I
Design and Specifications
cells as the carbon source for new cell growth. These new cells utilize the NO,, along with the
,. PO causing denitrification. The dead cells also provide a food source for the incoming bacteria.
Upon completion of the sludge return, the MLT pump can again fill the clarifier.
After adequate ozone contact and settling time, 100% of the clarified and disinfected effluent is
pumped from the contact chamber through dual multimedia pressure filters prior to final dis-
charge.
In selection of any treatment plant, consideration must be given to flexibility and ease of opera-
tion, rapid availability of spare parts, and completeness of design, with emphasis on the ability to
modularly phase in additional systems to accommodate additional hydraulic and biologic loading.
AquClear's Bio-Pure system process represents an uncommonly high degree of discharge control
flexibility, which has been proven by the large number of systems in operation throughout the
world, many of which have been in continuous operation for more than 25 years.
ry
The Bio-Pure system's discharge quality is considerably higher than required for this type of
application, and contributes no contamination or, pollution to any ponds, lakes, streams, or
groundwater supplies.
Independent laboratory tests included in this document were taken from a 30,000-gpd system
identical in process to the one described here. The system was installed at a marina in central
California in October of 1990, and has;consistently produced reclaimed water meeting the Cali-
fornia State Health Department standards for drinking water, with undetectable amounts of
suspended solids and BOD and less than 2.2 coliforms per 100m1.
NOTE: AquaClear neither advocates nor recommends drinking the discharge from
Lany wastewater treatment plant, even if certified to meet federal and state
drinking water standards, not for reasons of health, but due to potential legal li-
abilities caused by public misconception regarding reclaimed wastewater.
The Bio-Pure system is designed for easy access during general maintenance. Should any pump or
internal part need replacement, it can be accomplished in 30 minutes or less with no specialized
` tools or equipment required.
,1
System operation is normally performed automatically by a high-reliability microprocessor.
Should manual operation be required, the automatic systems may be overridden. All automatic
and manual operations are performed at a wall-mounted control panel. Flow volume and settling
time are also monitored automatically at this panel.
Electrical power for system operation during periods of municipal power outages may be pro-
vided by a gas or diesel-driven generator set which is initiated by demand.
After treatment, the effluent will be discharged to lakes or ponds from which local greenbelt and
open-space irrigation may take place. Water from such lakes or ponds may be used to create
waterfalls and running streams for aesthetic purposes. Such waterfalls or streams are safe for body
contact. All surface irrigation will take place during the early-morning hours, and all irrigation will
9
5
