r. Mr.Jadi Singh
January 24,2003
Job Number: LE02481
` Page 9
5.2 Double Ring Infiltrometer Tests
A total of two,4-hour double ring infiltration tests were performed on November 23 and 25,
2002 to determine the infiltration rate of the soil at a depth of 0.25 feet and 1.9 feet. A double
r ring infiltrometer test is described by ASTM D 3385-94 standard for measuring the infiltration
rate of soil. The ASTM D 3385-94 standard is attached in the appendix. The rings were driven
in the soil with a sledge hammer and driving plate to approximately 4 inches below the exposed
.. soil surface. The soil was supersaturated prior to performing each test.
The double ring infiltrometer tests were configured with a reservoir and float system to maintain
a constant head in each ring approximately 1 inch above the soil. A spike(a large nail)was
placed in the soil inside each ring at the same elevation for reference. The level of the water in
each ring was set equal in each ring and each ring was sealed from the other. Over a regular
interval, the rate of fluid flow was noted as inches drop in the reservoir. Since the surface area is
known for each ring, the resulting incremental infiltration rate was calculated and was plotted on
semi-log paper(see the appendix for the graph of data). The infiltration for the inside ring is
.. normally reported for the measurement since the most important purpose of the outside ring is to
promote vertical flow of the inside ring. The following table is a summary of the infiltration rate
of the shallow soil.
Table 4.
Summary of double ring infiltrometer tests.
Test No., Duration Percolation Percolation Rate Soil Type, comment
Date Tested of test Test Depth(ft) (minutes/inch)
DR-1, 4 hour 1.90 51.9 min/inch LL bm silty f-m sand,loose(SW),
11/25/02 moderate percolation rate.
DR-2, 4 hours 0.25 52.9 min/inch Dk bm silty f-m sand,loose(SW),
11/23/02 moderate percolation rate.
.. The result of the infiltration tests indicated the infiltration rate of the surface layer is about 52 to
53 minutes per inch for depths between 0.25 and 1.9 feet.
6.0 ESTIMATED WASTE WATER FLOW
The average daily flow and peak flow of sewage for the proposed facility is unknown. Estimates
of flow have been made from one of two similar facilities owned by Jadi Singh. An ARCO
AM/PM facility, located at 15051 Rogers Road,Patterson, California is the most similar facility
a
