GRANITE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY
TRACY EXCAVATION EXPANSION
PAGE 5
C. MINING PLAN
1. Operation Plan
Granite is proposing a revised project to harvest sand and gravel from property located on the west side
of the California Aqueduct (i.e. the project site). Excavation would begin on the North Side of Corral
Hollow Creek as the sequence shows on the enclosed mining plan DWG-02. Excavation would occur over
an approximate 6 year period. All of the excavated material would be transported to the existing
processing plant located on the east side of the California Aqueduct by means of a conveyor bridge installed
over the California Aqueduct. The Department of Water Resources ("DWR") has approved the location
and design of this temporary installation and will issue a permit upon their review of our project's
environmental clearance.
2. Topsoil
Although the site has been previously mined and much of the topsoil was removed during those previous
mining activities, there are still some isolated pockets of topsoils that vary in thickness up to two (2) feet
in depth. Those topsoils that still remain on the project site would be initially excavated and separately
stockpiled within the setback areas and on the then unexcavated areas, for use during reclamation of the
project. After removal of topsoils, excavation would proceed to remove the sand, gravel, and interbedded
lean clays. Lean clays encountered during excavation would be used to construct compacted clay berms
along the creek, final slopes and sold as unclassified fill material.
