1. Description of Environmental Setting i The proposed quarry site is located in the Northeast 'A of Section 20, Township 3 South, e Range 5 East,MDB &M. The property lies east of I-580 and west of the California Aquaduct. (Assessor's Parcel Nos. 253-09-10 and 253-09-11). The proposed site is located south of I Granite's current Tracy Expansion (QX-99-1) mining property. Please refer to Figure 1: Vicinity Map and Site Location Map, for the exact location of this proposed site. A. Maps Please refer to Figure 1 for site access as well as topographical features. B. Geology The site is comprised of Sector A-1 q material as identified by the Department of i Conservation, Division of Mines and Geology (DMG), as well as areas undefined by the I DMG. This area is also identified as Mineral Resource Zones 2 and 3. In general the + composition of Sector A-1 is 55 percent gravel, 30 percent sand, and 15 percent silt/clay. The site lies within the Corral Hollow Creek Alluvial Fan, South of Tracy. (See DMG Aggregate Resource Sector Map and Special Report 160 excerpt attached--Appendix B). E. Vegetation/Wildlife The proposed site is located within areas that have been identified as potential habitat for the San Joaquin Kit Fox. Granite plans to participate in the San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) Habitat Conservation Plan to mitigate for this habitat loss. The Habitat Conservation plan consists of a program in which participating companies pay a set amount per acre to the COG for the purchase and upkeep of essential habitats in replacement of lost habitat. I. Aesthetics The proposed site is located adjacent to Interstate 580, a California scenic corridor, as indicated in Figures 1-5. In addition, the elevation of the majority of the site is below that of the interstate. To account for the visual effect of the mine, Granite Construction is proposing to provide a visual barrier to the interstate consisting of a type of tree that is both hearty and provides a substantial barrier. It is anticipated that these measures will greatly reduce visibility of the site from I-580. 3
