W GIK
Southwest, Inc.
The property elevation is approximately 100 feet above MSL and is situated on alluvial
deposits of Quaternary Age. According to the United States Department of Agriculture Soil
Conservation Service (SCS) Soil Survey of San Joaquin County, the main soil type is San
Joaquin loam with a small area of Bruella sandy loam around Paddy Creek. According to
the SCS Soil Survey, San Joaquin loam is moderately well drained soil with a claypan at 16
inches below grade and a cemented hardpan starting at approximately 26 inches below
grade. Bruella sandy loam is very deep moderately well drained soil from granitic rock
sources. Bruella sandy loam has a hard substratum starting from 40 to 60 inches below
grade. According to the Soil Survey, where San Joaquin — Bruella soils "is used for home
site development, the main limitations are depth to the very slowly permeable claypan, depth
to the hardpan, the high shrink-swell potential, and the low strength in the subsoil ... Onsite
_ sewer disposal is difficult on the San Joaquin soils because of the very slow permeability
and the hardpan. Structural damage can result from the high shrink-swell potential and low
strength. These limitations should be considered when foundations, buildings, and roads are
designed."' (Refer to Appendix H for additional Soils Survey information.)
According to records for wells in the general area, groundwater depths range from 80 to 115
feet below grade. No municipal water is available in the area around the property. Well water
is used for domestic consumption and agricultural irrigation. All of the surrounding properties
rely on domestic and irrigation wells for their water supply.
r/ 3.3 HISTORICAL USE INFORAIA TION
To obtain historical use information, WGR researched the USGS Lockeford, CA 7.5-Minute
topographic quadrangle maps, historical aerial photographs, Sanborn fire insurance maps, city
directories, and the San Joaquin County Assessor's Office records.
Topographic Maps
The current and historical USGS Lockeford, CA 7.5-minute topographic quadrangle maps were
reviewed to obtain information. The maps indicated that the elevation of the site was estimated
to be between 95 and 100 feet above MSL. The subject property and adjoining properties are
shown as primarily undeveloped land on the 1953 through 1993 topographic maps. Copies of
the topographic maps are included in Appendix G.
United States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, Soil Survey of San Joaquin County,
California, 1992,page 19.
728.PRI.00 Page 9 June 2,2004
