Wastewater Treatment System 11W Ifte FALL CREEK
Specifications :50 ENGINEERING,INC.
American Three-square (Scirpus americanus) 1-3 feet tall
Common Tule (Scirpus acutus) 6-12 feet tall
`. Recommended Cattail:
%, Narrowleaf Cattail (Typha angustifolia) 5-10 feet tall
Broadleaf Cattail (Typha latifolia) 5-10 feet tall
Plants should be obtained from a local nursery, if possible to ensure they are adapted to the local
% climate. Native plants from existing wetlands may be harvested provided that removal of the
plants does not result in damage to the existing wetland or violate any applicable Local, State, or
Federal regulations. The use of weedy, invasive, or non-native species should be avoided.
%W 7.2. Planting Recommendations
`, 1. Ideal planting time is early spring when the plants are dormant.
2. The wetland shall be planted with container plants and/or dormant rhizomes and tubers.
If rhizomes are used, care must be taken to plant them with the correct orientation.
► 3. Planting seedlings or clumps is the easiest method.
`, 4. New shoots be shipped in a refrigerated container and kept moist.
5. Each shoot must have at least one viable growing tip visible.
6. To ensure survival, it is important to keep roots wet and plant in water as soon as
possible.
%W 7. When planting, keep the plants in buckets of water and pull each individual from the
bunch as needed.
8. Planting density should be on 1 to 3 foot centers. The higher density, the more rapid will
%W be the development of the system. If planted on 3-foot centers, the wetland will take at
%bl least two full growing seasons to approach equilibrium.
`. 9. Gravel beds should be covered with a layer of hay mulch 15 to 20 cm thick to provide
%W insulation for newly rooted plants and protection from the high surface temperatures that
occur on gravel surfaces.
%W 10. Water level should be maintained about 1 inch below the surface of the gravel while the
`. plants are getting started. It is advisable to use either fresh water or a mix of freshwater
%W and process wastewater to initially keep the plants moist. Later the water level may be
raised or lowered, however the wetland should not be allowed to completely dry out.
11. The water level can be increased slowly as new shoots develop, but the water level
should be never be higher than the tips of the green shoots.
%W 8. PUMPING SYSTEMS
The treatment system shall consist of two separate simplex pump systems. Each system shall
%01 include: (1) a pump and relate fittings; (2) a pump float switch assembly; and (3) a pump control
%W panel. The pump systems shall conform to the following specifications as well as those shown in
the plans.
I..
8.1. Pump System #1
Pump system #1 shall be installed in an influent pump basin. It shall pump to the septic tank via
the hyperbolic screen.
1ESSIE's GROVE WINERY 31 MAY 2002
