After reviewing the workplan, I have the following comments:
• Section 4.1, Soil Analysis, states, "A minimum of two (2) soil samples from both deep borings in
the pond areas will be analyzed." The Order requires a minimum of two soil samples from each
deep boring. Please clarify the number of samples prior to implementing the investigation.
• It is noted that the deep borings will be drilled with 10-inch hollow stem augers. That is
acceptable, however, easier drilling would be experienced using 8-inch diameter hollow stem
augers.
• Because of the depth of drilling and the likelihood that a significant portion of the borehole will
be unsaturated, Musco shall grout the borings using a cement based grout material as described
in Section 19.1) of California Well Standards Bulletin 74-90, and Section 13.17 of San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Department's Well Standards. Bentonite chips or slurry is not
F acceptable as a grout material.
The workplan is approved on the condition that the above comments are addressed in an addendum
letter. By 19 January 2001, Musco shall submit an addendum to the workplan. If you have any
questions on this conditional approval, please telephone me at (916) 255-3116.
TIMOTHY R.
