(WFS)
facility in Vernalis, California (Figure 1). The work described in this report was
performed in compliance with the California Regional Water Quality Control Board,
Central Valley Region (RWQCB) Monitoring and Reporting Program No. R5-2003-
0815 (MRP R5-2003-0815) dated 28 May 2003.
BACKGROUND
The WFS Vernalis monitoring well network consists of five groundwater
monitoring wells installed in November 1996 and February 1998 at locations shown on
Figure 2. A sixth well (MW-6) was installed in June 2002 to monitor the Remediation
Pilot Study area. Table 1 summarizes the monitoring well construction details. Water
levels and water quality in the five monitoring wells have been monitored quarterly
since the wells were installed until the current MRP was adopted, which requires semi-
annual groundwater monitoring.
By letter dated 21 September 2001, GeoSyntec received approval from the
RWQCB to implement and monitor a pilot-scale field test for enhanced in-situ
_ anaerobic bioremediation of volatile organic compounds (e.g. 1,2-dichloropropane [1,2-
DCP] and 1,2,3-trichloropropane [1,2,3-TCP]) and nitrate detected in groundwater.
