M
GEOSYNrEC CONSULTANTS
Ms. Amy Terrell
18 November 2004
Page 2
Remediation Pilot Study Monitoring Program requires quarterly monitoring of
monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-6 and annual monitoring of MW-4 and MW-5 for
constituents outlined in MRP R5-2003-0815.
SAMPLING PROCEDURES
Groundwater monitoring and remediation pilot study monitoring were performed
on 31 August 2004 at the WFS Vernalis facility. Blaine Tech Services, Inc. (Blaine
Tech) of San Jose, California, performed all fieldwork. Blaine Tech's report, including
field procedures and sampling logs, is provided in Attachment 1.
GROUNDWATER ELEVATIONS AND FLOW CONDITIONS
Table 2 summarizes groundwater levels measured during this and previous
sampling events. Groundwater elevations beneath the site ranged from 70.29 ft to 70.98
J ft above mean sea level (msl) in August (3rd quarter) 2004, and are slightly lower than
previous P quarter sampling events. Groundwater elevation contours from the 3 d
quarter 2004 sampling event are shown in Figure 3. Groundwater elevation contours
from the 1st quarter 2004 sampling event are shown in Figure 4.
Figure 5 graphically shows historical groundwater elevations for all monitoring
wells. As shown on Figure 5, groundwater elevations vary seasonally (low in 0
quarter, high in 3`d quarter) and appear to be trending downward. The seasonal
variation is most prominent in the data since 2000.
The groundwater flow direction for the 3`a quarter 2004 is predominantly to the east
with an average gradient of 0.0009 ft/ft (4.5 ft/mile). The historical groundwater flow
direction has typically been to the east or northeast.
ANALYTICAL RESULTS .
Agricultural & Priority Pollutants Laboratories (APPL), Inc. of Fresno, California,
analyzed groundwater samples collected from the five monitoring wells for total
oxidizable nitrogen (TON) (nitrate plus nitrite as nitrogen by EPA Method 353.2),
P:\PRJ2003RENI\WFS\VFR\MONF\3QG4\WC04066.dw
