October 7, 1999
Job Number: S99226
Page 5
was part of the geotechnical investigation conducted for the same project.' No ground water was
encountered.
VL GEOLOGY, SOILS,AND THE PERCOLATION TESTS
The geology of the area is reported to consist of alluvium of the Holocene and/or upper
Pleistocene age Calaveras River and Vicinity. This group is composed of unconsolidated gravel,
sand, silt, and clay. The Pleistocene age Modesto Formation is located less then about 1000 feet
north west of the northwest portion of the property. The Modesto Formation underlies the
Calaveras River and vicinity alluvium and is composed of unconsolidated gravel, sand, silt, and
clay. The Modesto Formation is commonly fine-grained and wide spread in the Central Valley
obtaining a thickness of about 100 feet. Because of the shallow and fine-grained nature of these
deposits, they do not yield much water to wells and would impede the vertical movement of
water.' The soils located on the site are reported to be the Rioblancho clay loam (Plate 7).
