.6a Hilvers Residence
April 26, 1993
Page 3
According to the groundwater maps reviewed by CTE for the area, the depth to first
groundwater is approximately 30 feet below the surface. Although the regional
+ direction of groundwater flow appears to be to the west, southwest toward the San
Joaquin River, seasonal fluctuations and the pumping of wells in the area may
produce local variations. The actual direction of groundwater flow is difficult to
determine without site specific data.
In conversations with the San Joaquin County Planning Department regarding flood
hazard classification, this parcel is located in Flood Zone C. Flood Zone C is out of
'r the 100 and 500 year flood plain, and the potential for flooding of the subsect site is
considered low.
V
Soils
According to information obtained from the USDA Soil Conservation Service for San
Joaquin County, soils in the area of the subject site are classified as Veritas Fine
Sandy Loam. Veritas soils are characteristically greyish brown to pale brown sandy
soils which are moderately well drained and have moderately rapid permeability. The
unit is underlain by a weakly to strongly cemented hardpan at a depth of
approximately 55 inches. The available water capacity is moderate, and runoff is
slow. Most areas of this unit are used for irrigated crops, orchards, and vineyards.
A few areas are used for irrigated pastures or for homesite development. A copy of
the USDA description is presented in the appendix.
The field investigation consisted of excavating two test pits, each 10 feet in depth,
near the percolation test location. Test pit #1 was positioned near the existing
homesite on the 39.3 acre parcel. Test pit #2 was excavated in the vicinity of the
future homesite located on the 1 .5 acre parcel (see Figure 2 for locations) .
v
The soils in test pit # 1 consisted of brown, fine-grained silty sands from 0 to 3 feet.
From 3 to 10 feet, the soil profile consisted of interbedded dense silts and fine-
grained silty sands (ML - SM) . Soil encountered in test pit #2 consisted of brown,
moist, silty sand (SM) from 0 to 10 feet.Soil moisture content in soil samples taken
from test pits #1 and #2 were 17.7 and 17.2 respectively.
Topography
The regional topography of the area slopes approximately 0 to 2$ toward the west,
++ and is characteristic of the alluvial fans and floodplains which comprise this section
of the valley. The topography of the site is level with an average elevation of
approximately 48 feet above sea level.
V
