L
LJune 12, 2006
NOA Project Number: E06061A
LJ3.3 Current On-Site Sources of Nitrate
Current on-site sources of nitrate include domestic waste water from the existing three-bedroom
Lresidence and rainfall.
/ 3.3.1 Existing Septic System
L Based on permits reviewed at the EHD (Section 3.5 of the SSS) and personal communication with
Mr. Hoffman (May 10, 2006), one septic system is located on the Site associated with the existing
residence. One septic system near the shop has not been used in 15 years. A third system, which
' was installed in 1972 to service a mobile home, was recently certified by the EHD as abandoned.
L /3.3.2 Agricultural Contribution
The non-developed portion of the Site is used as a vineyard. According to Mr. Hoffman, the soils
Lof the fields are tested every two years for nutrients, including nitrogen. The plant tissue is tested
annually. The testing is conducted by the vineyard's pest control advisor. Because the vineyard is
tested regularly to ensure nutrients are applied at agronomic rates,no agricultural contribution is
included in the nitrate loading calculation.
✓3.4 Future On-Site Sources of Nitrate
A
6' d.4.1 Quantity and Quality ofSeptic Wastewater From Proposed Project
L The following discussion is for determining the long-term septic waste water flow generated from
the proposed winery for the nitrate loading analysis and should not be used for septic system design
purposes. Typically, use estimates for the sizing of septic systems include a peak use factor, whereas
the numbers discussed here are based on long-term averages. Winery process water is not
considered in the calculation.
According to information on file at the San Joaquin County Planning Department, two employees
per day are anticipated Monday through Friday for the winery, and two employees per day are
anticipated Thursday through Sunday for the tasting room. A total of 20 customers per day are
anticipated Thursday through Sunday only. In addition to standard operation, four marketing events
per year are The events are anticipated to run approximately seven hours in length and
to draw 20 0 40 guests.
I
The existing three-bedroom residence has the potential to be occupied by up to four people over the
long term. A second dwelling unit, which could be constructed on the parcel, could be occupied by
up to three people. Therefore, a total of seven people will be used to calculate the residential septic
tank usage.
V
4
6. -t44
6
