Call the fire department (911) unless the fire is small and you are sure that you
can extinguish it with the fire extinguishers available.
Prepare a report of the fire for supervision and regulatory agencies as required.
3. Evacuation
If evacuation is necessary, direct employees to move to a safe, upwind location.
Normally this will be to the California Fuels Station, immediately south of the
terminal on S. El Dorado St. Make sure that all oersonnel have been accounted
for, that emergency assistance has been requested, if appropriate, and that
corrective measures are being taken to eliminate the emergency (shut off or cap
leaks, extinguish fires, etc.)
4. Contact with Outsiders
Cooperate fully with police and fire department personnel. Answer their questions
regarding the nature and extent of the emergency, potential effects of materials,
etc. as required for them to ensure their own safety and that of people outside the
plant.
Refer inquiries from news media and others to management. Explain that company
policy is for management to convey factual information to the media following
proper assessment of the situation.
