). H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES
' o A 3—foot bentonite plug will be placed above the sand pack to
provide a seal against surface water infiltration.
' o The remaining annular space will be filled with cement/bentonite
' grout to the surface utilizing a tremy system.
o The well will be secured inside a cement utility box set flush to
the ground surface.
3.4 MONITORING WELL DEVELOPMENT AND SAMPLING PROCEDURES
' The monitoring well will be developed several days after installation.
The well will be inspected first with a clear acrylic bailer to visually
' check for any product layer or sheen. If not product layer or sheen is
observed, the well will be developed with a surge block/air lift
' development tool. Surging with the tool along the screened interval of
the well will draw the sediment from the formation into and out of the
well and set the sand pack. The sediment laden water will be air lifted
' from the well at a rate of approximately 0.75 gallons per minute (GPM) .
This process will continue until the discharge water runs relatively clear
' and free of appreciable fines. We anticipate approximately 5 to 10 well
volumes will be removed during the development process. After the well
' has been developed, the formation will be allowed to stabilize for
approximately one week prior to any sampling.
The depth to the static water level will be measured prior to purging and
' sampling with a submersible pump. Field parameters (pH, conductivity,
temperature) will be measured and recorded periodically during purging.
Samples will be collected after the field parameters have stabilized and
at least five well volumes have been purged. After collecting a sample,
the sample bottles will be immediately sealed, appropriately labeled, and
placed in an iced cooler. The water samples will be delivered to a DOHS
certified analytical laboratory under chain—of—custody at the conclusion
of the field day.
To prevent cross—contamination, all developing and sampling equipment will
be steam—cleaned prior to use in each monitoring well.
51-87-413 6
