Additionally I spoke with Mr. Anderson on 19 May 2005
to clarify details of the proposed sampling and analysis plan. Based on the information
provided and the details of these recent conversations, I understand that you propose
installing four shallow soil borings, each to an anticipated total depth of about 15 feet
below ground surface, and collecting hydropunch groundwater samples from each boring.
Mr. Anderson stated that he anticipates that the groundwater flow direction is toward the
west, and placement of the four sampling locations is based on this assumption. As
presented, and assuming a westward groundwater flow direction, hydropunch points #2 and #3
are within the disposal area at or near the downgradient edge, while hydropunch points #1
and #4 are upgradient/within the disposal area, and cross-gradient/outside the disposal
area, respectively. As an initial screening evaluation, such assumptions may be
justified, however, additional sampling may be necessary and reuired at a later date.
You propose analyzing ail groundwater samples for:
General Minerals,
VDS/FDS, BOD,
Nitrogen series (TKN, Nitrate-N, Ammonia-N) ,
Total coliform, and
Fecal coliform.
We concur with your proposed groundwater sampling and analysis plan. You must obtain all
applicable permits and clearances prior to initiating this work. We understand that you
will provide the results of this shallow groundwater characterization work with your
Description of Proposed Discharge of Wastewater and Stormwater plan to be submitted by 6
June 2005.
Due to significant staff resource constraints, in the future please provide a minimum of
thirty days to allow adequate time for Regional Board staff review of work plan
submittals. If you have any questions, please call Tim O'Brien at (916) 464-4616 or me at
(916) 464-4732.
