Both submittals were prepared by Advanced GeoEnvironmental. PHS/EHD has
the following comments for your consideration.
The groundwater monitoring report included the results of the April 9, 1996 sampling event. The
groundwater beneath the site continues to rise, as it has since October 1994. PHS/EHD requested in
correspondence dated April 11, 1996 that well construction details be included in analytical summary
tables along with depth to water information. Groundwater has risen sufficient for a sample to be
obtained from MW2. Incorporate MW2 into the groundwater sampling plan. Also, groundwater
samples obtained should undergo MTBE analysis. The next report submitted should incorporate the
additional information which has been requested.
The waste disposal summary which PHS/EHD requested in correspondence dated April 11, 1996 was
not submitted. On April 9, 1996, PHSIEHD noted that there were (29) 55 gallon drums stored on site.
Some drums were not clearly labeled, some were empty and some contained soil cuttings or waste
water. PHSIEHD requested that the contents of the drums be properly disposed, that the empty drums
be removed and that a disposal summary be prepared and submitted.
The work pian included a proposal to drill and sample three soil borings using direct push technology.
Soil samples will be collected beginning at 15 to 20 feet below ground surface (bgs). PHSIEHD
recommends that soil samples be collected beginning at 5 feet bgs. Weiss Associates noted during
the installation of MW1 on July 22, 1987, OVA readings of 91 ppm at approximately 6 feet. The soil
borings will be drilled to approximately 55 feet bgs.
Enclosed is the copy of the PHSIEHD permit#009977.
