of the excavation. Native soil was found to consist of
yellow brown silty sand. -
Samples S-13-2 and S-15-3 were collected from the base
of the tank cavity after excavati g below the former
gasoline tank with the backhoe at the turbine (north) and
fill port (south) ends of the tank, respectively . For each j
sample, the sampler was used to drive a clean brass sample
hsleeve into soil in the backhoe bucket immediately after
native soil was removed from the excavation and the
uppermost 5 to 8 inches were scraped off with a shovel . The
F tank was of single-walled steel construction; some corrosion
was evident , but no evidence of oles was observed on the
houter surface of the tank. No evidence of soil
contamination was noted in the s mples (possible very slight
odor) or in the walls of the excavation. Native soil was
found to consist of yellow brown silty sand.
Sample S-2-4 was collected on June 5 , 1990 , from the
base of a trench below the location of a joint in the former
product delivery line. The sample was collected at a depth
of approximately 2 ft below surface grade using the drive
sampler.
After each sample was collected, the sleeve was removed
Fil'
from the sampler and sealed with aluminum foil , plastic
caps, and airtight tape. It was then labelled and placed
F1into iced storage. The sample d signation reflects the
sample matrix (S = soil ) , the approximate sample depth (in
Ffeet below grade) , and the sample) number. The approximate
I ocations of the samples within the tank excavation are
shown on the Generalized Site PlIn (Plate 2) . A Chain of
R Custody Record was initiated by. the sampler and accompanied
the samples to the analytical laboratory . A copy of this .
Frecord is included in Appendix Al
ROGER FOOTT ASSOCIATES, INC.
- 2-
