1 . 0 INTRODUCTION <br /> F <br /> The Matheson Fast Freight facility is located on the <br /> southwest corner of East Walnut Street and South Main Street <br /> F in Lodi , as indicated on the Site Vicinity Map (Plate 1) . <br /> The former underground storage tanks were located to the <br /> Fwest of the site building. The approximate locations of the <br /> tank cavity and site features are shown on the Generalized <br /> Site Plan, Plate 2 . <br /> i <br /> 2 . 0 PREVIOUS WORK i <br /> F <br /> 2 . 1 Tank -Removal <br /> Fi` RAMCON, of West Sacramento, California conducted .tank <br /> removal operations in May, 1990 . No representative of the <br /> Lodi Fire Department was present during tank removal ; Ms . <br /> Casey Foley of the San Joaquin Local Health District (SJLHD) <br />`i was present at the site during tank removal and inspection, <br /> II loading of the tank for transport and soil sampling. RAMCON <br /> was responsible for permit- acquisition, arranging for <br /> F disposal of the tanks , and notification of the appropriate. <br /> authorities . <br /> The tanks were removed from the tank excavation using a <br /> 4 crane and soil was excavated from the tank cavity with a I� <br /> backhoe. Soil sample S-8 . 5-1 collected from below the I <br /> former waste oil tank at an approximate depth of 8 . 5 ft <br /> Fj below grade, or roughly 2 ft below the base of and below the <br /> a <br /> fill port of the former tank. The sample was collected by <br /> j driving a clean brass sleeve into undisturbed native soil at <br /> the base of the excavation below the former tank using a <br /> F <br /> hand-operated drive sampler equipped with extender rods . <br /> The tank was spherical and was of single-walled steel <br /> construction; no evidence of holes or unusual corrosion were <br /> observed on the outer surface of the tank.
