of the excavation. Native soil as found to consist of
I yellow brown silty sand. -
Samples 5-13-2 and 5-15-3 were collected from the base
F of the tank cavity after excavating below the former
gasoline tank with the backhoe at the turbine (north) and
fill port (south) ends of the tank, respectively. For each
sample, the sampler was used to drive a clean brass sample
F', sleeve into soil in the backhoe blucket immediately after
li
native soil was removed from the xcavation and the
uppermost 6 to 8 inches were scraped off with a shovel . The
tank was of single-walled steel construction; some corrosion
was evident, but no evidence of holes was observed on the
F outer surface of the tank. No evidence of soil
contamination was noted in the samples les
iip (possible very slight
Fodor) or in the walls of . the excavation. Native soil was
found to consist of yellow brown oilty sand.
F + Sample 5-2-4 was collected on June 5
1990 , from the
base of a trench below the location of a joint in the former
F1 product delivery line. The sample was collected at a depth
of approximately 2 ft below surface grade using the drive
FI! sampler.

i After each sample was collected, the sleeve was removed
! + from the sampler and sealed with aluminum foil , plastic
caps, and airtight tape. It was hen labelled and placed
Finto iced storage. The sample designation reflects the
sample matrix (S = soil ) , the approximate sample depth (in
feet below
grade) and the sample number. The approximate
locations of the samples within U e tank excavation are
shown on the Generalized site Pla (Plate 2) . A Chain of
Custody Record was initiated by' te sampler and accompanied
r- the samples to the analytical . laboratory. A copy of this
record is included in Appendix A.
i
1
ROGER FOOTT ASSOCIATES, INC.
-2-
