i
5 August 1992
(GeoAudit CV 30-34E3-1. 47)
Water samples were collected using disposable plastic bailers. The
samples were collected in two 40 ml EPA vials and 1 liter amber
bottles. The samples were stored in a chilled container and
transported to Alpha Analytical Laboratories. The water samples
were analyzed for TPH as gasoline, BTE&X and total lead. At the
request of Mary Meays, a fecal coliform test was also performed on
the sample from MW-5, because this well is located within 50 ft of
a city sewer line.
SITE GEOLOGY
' The site is underlain by interbedded sand, silt, and clay. These
deposits range from well-sorted silt to moderately or poorly sorted
granitic sand, derived from the Sierra Nevada.
Both borings penetrated approximately five feet of surficial
backfill material and gravel (see boring logs) . Light brown to
brown clayey sand and sandy silt are present from 6 to 20 feet. The
sand becomes somewhat coarser grained and better sorted downward.
',.. Blue-gray to brown clay is predominant in MW-4 from approximately
40 ft to 60 ft. In MW-5, this zone is mostly clayey sand. Below 60
ft, both borings penetrated silty fine--grained sand. Water was
encountered at about
FINDINGS
A slight hydrocarbon odor was observed in soil samples B4-40, B4-45
and B4-50 (MW-4) , but no volatile organic vapors were detected by
the PID. No odors were detected in samples from MW-5.
1 Four soil samples from 14W-4 and three soil samples from MW-5 were
analyzed for TPH as gasoline, BTE&X and total lead (Table 1) . No
TPH or BTEX were detected in any samples. Lead was at or below
' reporting limits in all but two samples. The laboratory report and
chain of custody are attached in Appendix A.
r
The analytical results of the water samples are summarized in Table
1 2 . The sample from MW-4 was contaminated with TPH as gasoline (300
gg/L [ppb) ) , benzene ( 19 gg/L) , toluene (5. 1 gg/L) , ethylbenzene
(1. 2 Ag/L) , and xylenes (11 µg/L) .
