Appendix A
Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan
calibration, and adjustments for special environmental conditions or interferences. Calibration and
maintenance requirements of the field equipment will follow the manufacturer's specifications.
A.2.2 Sample Quality Control
Sampling will be conducted using procedures that protect the physical and chemical integrity of the
sample. Representative data will be obtained by adhering to specific sampling and analysis
procedures outlined in Section 4.0 of the Workplan, including the decontamination of drilling and
sampling equipment prior to use. QC samples including aqueous trip blanks will be collected in the
field during soil sampling activities, as described in Section 4.0 of the Workplan. Sample QC
procedures at the analytical laboratory will be in accordance with their accredited plan. Each sample
will be tracked from the time of collection by extensive field documentation, which is completed
during sampling.
A Chain-of-Custody form is designed to create an accurate record which can be used to trace the
possession and handling of samples from the moment of collection through analysis. The Chain-of-
Custody is filled out by the field sampling team at the time a sample is collected. The Chain-of-
Custody will accompany the sample through all transportation until it is received by the laboratory,
where it is filed. Whenever a sample is transferred from one party to another, both parties will sign
and date the Chain-of-Custody at the time of transfer.
A.2.3 Field QC Sample—Trip Blank
Trip blank samples prepared by the analytical laboratory will be maintained in sample coolers during
the duration of the soil investigation. These samples will be included with soil sample shipments to
the off-site laboratory. The analytical data from the trip blank samples will be used to evaluate if
contamination was introduced to the soil samples as a result of the sample methodology, storage in
the cooler,and/or during transport to the laboratory.
Trip blank samples will be collected at a rate of one per day and a minimum of one trip blank
sample will be submitted to the laboratory with each sample batch during soil sampling activities.
Each trip blank sample will be analyzed for one or more of the following tests: VOCs and/or and
TPHg using EPA Method 8260B.
A.3 LABORATORY QA/QC PROCEDURES
Analytical QC measures will be implemented by the laboratory to ensure the validity and the
integrity of the results.
• Maintenance and calibration of all laboratory instruments in accordance with the
laboratory's internal quality assurance plan, in accordance with State of California
laboratory accreditation evaluation requirements.
• Sample storage, preparation, and extraction in accordance with the EPA method and
within allowable holding times specified by the EPA method.
• Review and evaluation of all data including soil sample data, field QC data, and
laboratory QC data by internal laboratory management prior to submission to the
Responsible Manager and QA Officer.
TERRA PACIFIC GROUP Page A-3 of A-5
