Regional Board staff comments on the document are provided below.
Background
In April, 2004, Busy Bee submitted a document entitled"Draft Remedial Investigation Report,
Workplan for Installation of Additional Downgradient Monitoring Well and Workplan for Focused
Feasibility Study". Based on discussions with Regional Board staff on June 3 and August 12, 2004,
Busy Bee decided to hold finalization of the RDFS report until the remaining characterization and
treatability studies have been completed.
In the work plan, Busy Bee proposes to install additional groundwater monitoring wells, perform soil
vapor extraction (SVE) testing and groundwater air sparging (GAS)pilot studies at the Busy Bee site. A
summary of the proposed work follows:
1. A groundwater monitoring well will be installed approximately 400 feet down gradient(south) of
the southernmost monitoring well. Samples from the southernmost well contained 5.0 µg/1 PCE
in January 2004 and 4.0 µg/1 PCE in May 2004.
2. A groundwater monitoring well will be installed in a data gap area along the central axis of the
plume (on Main Street between Oak and Pine Streets).
3. Ten SVE extraction wells and 19-SVE observation wells will be installed. Three separate SVE
pilot systems will be used, one in each of the following three test areas; source area, mid-plume
and downgradient plume areas.
California Environmental Protection Agency
cd Recycled Paper
