vicinity of the Property. In addition, the work plan sets forth the methods and procedures to obtain data
related to the geologic conditions, the hydrogeologic conditions and distribution of the VOCs in soil
and groundwater within the vicinity of the Property. The proposed scope of work contained in the
work plan is intended to collect more comprehensive data than had been collected during previous
investigations by filling in identified data gaps. The scope of work includes a video survey of the sewer
lateral from the Property, and the collection and chemical analysis of soil, groundwater and soil vapor
samples to close the identified data gaps.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Following completion of the Phase 1 Site Characterization, a Community Relations Plan will be
prepared along with a plan to complete an RIFS for the site. The Community Relations Plan for the
Lodi Groundwater Site will identify opportunities for public involvement throughout the investigation
and remediation process. The Community Relations Plan will be available at the document repository
at the Lodi Public Library, 201 West Locust Street in Lodi. The Phase 1 Site Characterization Workplan
and background materials are available at the Lodi Public Library.
GLOSSARY OF TERMS
Groundwater: Underground water that fills pores between particles of soil, sand, and gravel or
openings in rocks to the point of saturation.
Perchloroethylene (PCE): A volatile organic compound historically used as a solvent for dry cleaning
and other purposes.
Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RIFS): A process in which the extent and nature of
contamination is evaluated to determine viable remedial alternatives and assess the alternatives' relative
cost, effectiveness, and implementability.
Soil Vapor: Vapor, present in void spaces in soil between the groundwater and the surface of the
ground, which may contain chemicals.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): An organic compound (carbon containing) that evaporates
(volatilizes) at room temperature. PCE, TCE, and 1,1,1-TCA are VOCs. VOCs travel readily through
soil and groundwater and may have adverse health effects on humans if ingested.
CONTACTS
RWQCB: Duncan Austin P.E., Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region, 3443
Routier Road, Suite A, Sacramento, CA 95814, (916) 255-3412.
Contractor: EZC, Mark W.
