Proiect Number 1804BK54 April 11,2013 <br /> the rig to prevent moving parts from causing injury. <br /> • Unauthorized personnel should be kept out of the immediate work area. <br /> Noise <br /> Use of heavy equipment on the Site may result in noise levels that exceed the <br /> Cal/OSHA permissible exposure limit of 90 dBA time-weighted average for an 8-hour <br /> workday. Site workers will wear hearing protection that will provide a noise rating <br /> reduction (NRR) of a minimum of 20 dB when operating or working around heavy <br /> equipment. Hearing protection will consist of earplugs or protective headphones. <br /> Underp,round and Overhead Utilities <br /> Prior to subsurface intrusive activities that may encounter buried utilities, <br /> Underground Service Alert (U.S.A.) will be contacted at least two working days in <br /> advance to notify utility companies to field locate underground utilities. This typically <br /> includes water lines, electrical lines, television cables, and sewer piping. <br /> When working near overhead utility lines a minimum 20-foot clearance will be <br /> maintained by equipment using upright booms that may come into contact with the <br /> utility lines. <br /> Materials and Equipment Handling <br /> Workers can be exposed to the physical risks of handling materials and equipment <br /> including muscle strains and minor injuries. Field employees will utilize proper safe <br /> lifting techniques, as reviewed in the annual 8-hour refresher HAZWOPER course. <br /> Use of proper PPE such as steel-toed boots and heavy work gloves will help prevent <br /> minor injuries. Heavy materials should be moved using mechanical devices (e.g., <br /> dollies, hydraulic lift gates) where available to reduce the risk of personal injury. <br /> Personal Protective Equipment <br /> Personal protective equipment will be used to protect personnel from potential <br /> hazards arising from the field activities. The amount and type of PPE will be <br /> determined in the field by the SSO in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the <br /> SSP. As this work involves destroying wells that have been cleanup up of <br /> contaminants, respiratory protection should not be needed; however, respiratory <br /> equipment will be on hand in case of unforeseen circumstances. <br /> Skin protection will be employed through the use of coveralls and chemical-resistant <br /> nitrile gloves when handling media (soil or groundwater) that may be potentially <br /> contaminated. The SSO will keep field personnel informed of the Level of PPE <br /> recommended to safely perform the work activities. <br /> Level D Protection <br /> The well destruction activities will be performed utilizing Level D protection, unless <br /> determined otherwise by the SSO. The following are minimum requirements for Level <br /> D PPE: <br /> • Work shirt and long pants <br /> • ANSI-approved steel-toed boots or safety shoes <br /> • ANSI-approved safety glasses <br /> • ANSI-approved hard hat <br /> • Hearing protection <br /> • Heavy work gloves to reduce the risk of hand injury when working with heavy <br /> E2C Remediation Appendix A-6 <br />
