September 5.2001
• Collect a 'grab' groundwater sample from each boring; `grab' water samples will be
sealed in accordance with State and EPA protocols and transferred under Chain-of-
Custody to a State of California-Certified analytical laboratory;
• Analyze approximately four soil samples from each boring for VOCs using EPA Method
8260b;
• Analyze `grab' water samples for VOCs using EPA Method 8260b; and
• Abandon all boreholes with a neat-cement or bentonite grout. Cuttings will be placed in
drums pending proper disposal.
1.3 Schedule
E2C Remediation, LLC (E2C) anticipates beginning work described herein within one week upon
approval of permits and authorization to proceed from Client. The field services can be
accomplished in two working days. The analytical data will be reported within two weeks after
sample submittal.
2.0 SITE HISTORY
The Busy Bee property is located at the intersection of Main and Elm in Lodi, California. Dry
cleaning equipment was reported as being installed at the Site in 1986. Prior to installation of
the dry cleaning equipment, the facility served as a laundry. Tetrachloroethylene (PCE) was
recycled from dry cleaning processes wastewater. Remaining separator water was picked up
by a licensed hazardous waste handling facility approximately every six to seven weeks.
The State of California Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) initiated investigations
of potential PCE contamination due to detections of PCE in the City of Lodi Well No. 3. Soil gas
surveys were performed and soil borings were advanced with collection of soil samples. The
soil boring locations (BB1 through 13133) are depicted on the attached figure. These three
borings were advanced to groundwater, approximately 50-55 feet bgs, and grab groundwater
samples were collected.
Of specific note, PCE was detected in soil samples from BB2 at concentrations up to 290 µg/Kg
(micrograms per kilogram, equivalent to parts per billion). PCE was also detected in the grab
groundwater samples ranging from 1,900 µg/l_ (micrograms per liter, equivalent to parts per
billion) (BBB#) to 4,400 µg/l_ (13131).
In addition, soil gas work indicated that PCE in soil gas coincided with locations of sewer pipe
cracks and joints that were documented through video inspection of the sewer lines.
More recent testing indicates significantly reduced concentrations of PCE, TCE, and TCA,
contaminants in soil gas, soil, and groundwater.
3.0 GEOLOGY& HYDROGEOLOGY
3.1 Regional Geology and Hydrogeology
The property is located in the Great Valley Province in the northern San Joaquin Valley. The
subsurface is comprised primarily of continental deposits consisting of highly stratified,
interbedded, coarse-grained sediments and fine-grained cohesive to lithified sediments to
2
E2C Remediation,LLC
