Soil Suitability Study*MS-98-27*Parcel No . 1 & Designated Remainder
building , a well and a septic system in the southeast corner of the
parcel . The remaining property is unimproved and presently used to
graze horses and a couple of goats .
Soil Profile Test : On my "Field Percolation Data Sheets" , I have
noted the soil encountered to be reddish-brown in color and either
clayey or , sandy or granular , San Joaquin Loam.
The University Of California publication entitled "Soils Of San
Joaquin County , California" by Walter W . Weir , dated June 1952 ,
refers to the soil in this general area as possibly "San Joaquin
Loam" , reddish-brown in color , with good surface and imperfect
subsurface drainage or "San Joaquin Loam, Deep" , reddish brown in
color with good surface and subsurface drainage .
The Soil Survey of San Joaquin County , California , United States
Department Of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service, issued October
1992 lists the soil type as San Joaquin Loam, 0% to 2% slopes ,
cemented layers in shallow excavations and reddish brown in color .
The physical and chemical properties of the soil are listed as
follows :
Soil Name Depth Clay Permeability Shrink Swell P I ast i c i_t_y_
( Inches) M ( Inches/Hr . ) Index
San Joaquin 0- 16 15-25 0 . 6-2 . 0 Low NP- 10
Loam 16-26 35-50 Less than 0 . 6 High 25-35
26-60 --- ---- ----
No water was encountered in excavating any of the percolation
test holes to a maximum depth of 19 ' 10" . The San Joaquin County
Flood Control And Water Conservation Map entitled "Lines of Equal
Depth To Water Wells" dated Spring 1997 shows the water to be in
excess of sixty feet ( 60) feet below the ground surface .
Percolation Tests : Two ( 2) shallow Percolation Test Holes , Nos . PH1
and RPH , were excavated to depths of 34 . 5" and 35" respectively and
tested in a non-standard manner ( 1 1 /2 hours long) and resulted in
percolation rates of 480 minutes per inch for Parcel No . 1 and 240
minutes per inch for the Designated Remainder parcel as shown on
the "Field Percolation Sheet" for test hole nos . PH1 and RPH which
determined the need for deep percolation testing .
Three ( 3) deep Percolation Test Holes were dug on November 5 ,
1998 . One , designated URPH , was abandoned from further testing by
visual inspection, and the other two were formally tested and are
designated Nos . PH1A and RPHA . PH1A was dug to a depth of 19 ' 08" on
Parcel No . 1 and the second , RPHA was dug to a depth of 9 ' 10" on
the Designated Remainder parcel and were formally tested and are
reported on in this report .
The deep percolation tests were conducted and performed in
accordance with the percolation test procedures outlined in the
Noreen Thompson, 3157 East Woodson Road , Acampo Ca . 95220 3
