specifications prepared by the Soil Conservation Service, and
outlined in their letter of August 24 to El Rancho Rock and
Sand, Inc. A seed mix of Blands Brome, Annual Rvegrass and
Lana Vetch shall be applied, fertilized and mulched as per
construction requirements CA 342 for Critical Area Planting.
Following cessation of processing operations, the six (6) man-
made settling/recycling ponds and water storage Ponds in the
northerly portion of the site will ultimately evaporate dry,
and will remain empty at least during the dry months of the
year. There are currently two reclamation alternatives for the
pond complex, as summarized below:
Reclamation alternative #1 requires that the ponds be breeched
and allowed to drain dry. Following drying, the ponds will be
cleaned of all accumulated clays, silts and slimes, leveled
off, and resurfaced. The land surfaces will be revegetated and
reclaimed as grazing/rangeland.
Reclamation alternative #2 is the possibility of maintaining
the ponds in a wet condition throughout the greater part of
the year. The sites will be revegetated and reclaimed as
wetland habitats.
A final determination of the reclamation alternative to be
used will be made at the time the processing operations are
drawing to a close.
21. Describe the ultimate physical condition of the site and
specify proposed use(s) or potential uses, of the mined lands
once reclaimed:
Those portions of the lease holding not currently permitted
for excavation/quarrying activities are used as cattle grazing
rangeland. Following cessation of excavation and processing
activities the entire site will be returned to rangeland.
Total acreage to be reclaimed will match the total acreage to
be disturbed.
The processing plant and all equipment will be dismantled and
removed from the site. In the northerly portion of the site,
excavation has resulted in removal of the rounded tops of the
low rolling hills over an area of approximately 67. 1 acres.
In the southerly portion of the site the open pit will cover
an area of 80 to 120 acres. The pit walls will slope at a 2 : 1
ratio from the undisturbed ground surfaces to the pit floor at
depths of from 40 to 20 feet.
Ground surfaces and haul roads will be recontoured or leveled
and graded as required to present a more natural appearance
and prevent erosion, gullying or ponding of surface water.
10
CONDOR
