Existing and Proposed Septic Tank Usage
Existing Septic System
One septic system is currently located on the Site (Plate 2).
Proposed Septic System
Mr. Kumar plans to build a new septic system for the new residence. He indicated that
the existing septic system will be demolished (personal communication, April 24, 2019).
On-Site Septic Permit History
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department septic permit files were
searched for the Site address. The following three permits were identified:
April 1968 permit for replacement septic system for small shop. The system
utilized a 1,000-gallon septic tank and one 80-foot leach line.
May 1968 permit for addition to existing residential septic system. An 80-foot
leach line was added to the existing system.
March 1995 permit for repair to existing residential septic system. The system
utilized a 1,600-gallon septic tank and four 70-foot leach lines.
These permits have been included in Appendix 4 of this report.
Existing Septic Tank Usage in the Vicinity
To estimate the septic system usage in the area, our office counted septic systems that
exist within approximately one square mile surrounding the property. Air photo imagery
from Google Earth was used. Each building cluster on the photo was assumed to have
one septic system. Using this method, it is estimated that at least seven septic systems
per square mile are located in the immediate vicinity of the Site.
The vicinity of the Site is primarily agricultural; only a few scattered rural residences are
located within the surrounding mile. A dairy is located just over one-half mile to the
north of the Site. A large residential subdivision is located just over one-half mile to the
south.
Septic Permit History in the Vicinity
Based on a review of septic permits on file at the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department for nearby properties, most septic systems in the area utilize leach
lines only. The septic permits can be found in Appendix 4 of this report.
LOGE 1909 Page 2
