T
The following is Wm. J. Hunter & Associates' work plan which Mr. Hunter believes
was the general agreement which you and he discussed in September of 1994:
1. Place 5 auger borings at locations around the removed tanks to determine the
extent of the soil contamination:
a. Soil samples would be taken at 5' intervals from 10' bgl to the capillary
fringe (estimated to be about 70' bgl.)
b. Using a Hydropunch or BAT tool, obtain a sample of the groundwater.
2. Place a soil boring in the approximate center of the area with the highest
readings; take soil samples as above.
a. Convert the soil boring to a groundwater monitoring well; estimated
depth of 80' bgi.
b. Well would be developed, purged, tested and sampled using standard
field protocol (LUFT Manual Guidelines).
3. Soil samples would be tested for BTRX and TEPH (Stoddard solvent) using a
California Certified Laboratory.
4. Water samples (both from soil borings and monitoring well) to be tested for
BTEX, TPH-G and 'TEPH (Stoddard solvent).
5. Depending on the laboratory analyses, the monitoring well would be either
tested one month later or put on a quarterly monitoring program.
6. The soil borings could be converted to wells-at the time they are drilled if field
evidence suggests it to be advisable.
7. The actual locations for the soil borings have not been selected, but at least
one, and possibly two, should be across the street to the west, two to the north
(probably in the sidewalk on the south side of Main Street) and one on the
property. The sixth boring, which would become a monitoring well, would be
on the property in the vicinity of the previously placed soil boring #1 and #2.
Wm. J. Hunter & Associates' estimated cost of this additional work is approximately
$30,000.00. Given the extreme cost of this project, we are applying for .cleanup fund
assistance. At this point, however, neither Mr. Hyduke nor Valley Motors, Inc. has the
funds to proceed without assistance from the cleanup fund.
We understand that the exact location of the borings and bids are still necessary,
