The Report provides the results of groundwater monitoring conducted on 2 March 2012.
Maximum concentrations were total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline, 11,300 micrograms per Liter (ug/L);
benzene, 714 ug/L; toluene, 1,760 ug/L; ethylbenzene, 703 ug/L; and xylenes, 1,860 ug/L. Depth to water
varied from 27' below ground surface (bgs) to 29' bgs. Groundwater flow direction was towards the east at a
gradient of 0.006 ft/ft. Valley Motors is awaiting direction from this agency for the groundwater extraction
(GWE) pilot study approved,by San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department, and cites financial
hardship for delays due to an outstanding payment from the State Water Resources UST Cleanup Fund.
A trichloroethene (TCE) and tetrachloroethene (PCE) groundwater plume, emanating from a suspected
upgradient source to the west, was previously detected during groundwater monitoring. As such, GWE is not
practical since there is a high probability that pumping will continue to draw the TCE/PCE plume into the GWE
system and increase treatment cost. Therefore a feasibility study is necessary to evaluate remedial
alternatives besides GWE (e.g, insitu chemical oxidation injections, etc.). Please submit the following:
• A feasibility study for alternatives to GWE by 30 July 2012;
• A work plan for an alternative remedial pilot study by 30 July 2012; and beginning 27 April 2012,
• Bi-(alternating)-weekly email status updates for-all pending or recently submitted invoices and payments.
You may contact me with your questions by phone at (916) 464-4615 or by e-mail at
ibarton waterboar s.ca. ov.__
James L.L.
