located approximately 100' from Sowles Road and centered on each parcel frontage. Testing was
observed by Mr. Ted Norgard, RENS, of the Environmental Health Division of the Public Health
Services, 304 E. Weber Avenue, 3d Floor, Stockton, California, 95202
SEPTIC TANK AND LEACH FIELD
A standard gravity sewer septic system with pits installed in accordance with the Environmental
Health Division requirements would serve one residence. To avoid failure of the system a
structurally sound and waterproof septic tank is required. The tank should be protected from
vehicle or farm equipment running over the tank or leach field area.
The use of a garbage disposal requires periodic inspection of the tank more often than normal use
without a disposal. A gravity effluent filter should be installed with riser to surface and sealed lid.
This provides easy access to clean the filter when making periodic inspections and protects the
leach field from damage. The 4" Biotube Effluent Filter by OSI, or equal, is recommended.
CONCLUSION
The percolation test results and field analysis indicate each of the three parcels is acceptable to
residential on-site disposal of clear sewage effluent, when the system is installed in conformance
with San Joaquin Standards and the tank manufacturer's specifications. The minimum leach field
area recommended is 10,000 SF. The layer of hard pan probably exists thruout all three parcels.
Pits are required in order to reach the favorable soil strata for effluent disposal.
A document search at the E14D for septic repair or modification was made and some proximity
locations are listed:
ADDRESS PERMIT# REMARKS
22801 N. Sowles Rd. 94230 Add two 40' lines and pits
24400 N. Sowles Rd. 85159 Add two 40'lines and pits
24621 N. Sowles Rd. 88465 Add two pits
25155 N. Sowles Rd. 72971 Add 75'leach line& 1 pit
27741 N. Sowles Rd. 84945 Add one 40 line and 1 pit
25130 N. Sowles Rd. 4 Apr 95(Morehead)Remainder, add new leach field and pits.
The above repairs on Sowles Road indicate additional drainage or seepage pits are necessary in
this area, probably due to the hardpan layer(s) existing at the approximate 4' depth .
Lack of maintenance of the septic system will also insure problems. Protection of the leaching
system warrants the installation of a filter, such as the Biotube filter, in all new installtations.
The water sample taken from the residence (remainder parcel) domestic well was tested by FGL
Lab in Stockton. The test results are shown in the Appendix and indicate a low level of nitrate
and DBCP was not detected.
