Mr. Michael J. Infurna, J.L.
San Joaquin County Public Health Service
November 3, 1992
Page 3
The soil sample retained for laboratory testing will be prepared by covering the
exposed ends of the sleeves with Teflon sheeting, fitted with plastic end caps and
uniquely labeled. Sample labels will include the following information: (1)
boring number; (2) sample number; (3) date; (4) collector initials; (5) owner; and
(6) location. The indicated soil samples will be stored in an ice cooled chest. At
the end of each day samples will be delivered under proper chain-of-custody for
analysis.
2.3 Analyze one soil sample from each boring for:
EPA Method 418.1 - Total Recoverable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH)
EPA Method 8015/Modified - Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons-Gasoline (TPH-G)
2.4 Groundwater Sampling and Survey:
Groundwater samples will be collected by using a HydroPunch II assembly. The
HydroPunch II is used as a screening device and permits sampling the
groundwater without installing permanent monitoring wells. After sampling, the
depth to groundwater will be measured and the borehole will then be grouted to
surface with a 5% bentonite/cement slurry. To accomplish this work, ATEC
will:
2.4.1 Perform a HydroPunch II sampling in each of the soil borings. Each
HydroPunch II will extend from a depth of 1-foot above the
groundwater table to 4 feet into the table. Once the HydroPunch II tip
has reached the desired depth, the barrel will be retracted exposing the
screen. A stainless steel bailer is lowered into the screen and a
groundwater sample is retrieved.
2.4.2 Record field measurements of water levels, specific conductance,
temperature, and pH at each sample point. Groundwater samples will
be placed in the proper sample container and transferred under chain-of-
custody to laboratory for analyses.
2.4.3 The laboratory will analyze the groundwater samples by the following
analytical methods:
2.4.4 Locate all sampling points and boreholes relative to the onsite structures.
2.5 Report Preparation:
Upon completion of the subsurface sampling investigation, a copy of the final
report will be sent to SJCPHS. The report will discuss and interpret the field
sjcphs-1l.rpt
