New Moose Lodge SS/NLS Addendum Page 2 of 4
Our Project Number: E07175A
November 26, 2007
The estimated sewage flow rates for use categories are available from a number of references.
The uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site Wastewater Disposal
Standards (2003), Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998), and EPA (1980). The references indicate
that 13 gallons for each employee is typical for an office worker (includes sportsman's club
workers), and 5 gallons is typical for each customer (member) (Crites and Tchobanoglous,
1998).
The following table presents the septic waste water uses associated with the Site. The rates
presented from the references provide general guidance but do not always reflect a match in
usage. Careful examination, professional judgment, and experience are necessary to select a
reasonable flow rate estimate. The flow rates selected for the uses associated with this project
are presented next.
Table 1.
Typical Quantity of Effluent.
Category Total People Average Quantity per Average Daily Flow per Parcel
per Day Person
Members— 40 5 gal/day/member (40 members * 5 gpd * 5/7) = 143 gpd
weekday
Members— 150 5 gal/day/member (150 members* 5 gpd * 2/7) = 214 gpd
weekend
Employees— 4 13 gal/day/employee (4 employees* 13 gpd * 5/7) = 37 gpd
weekday
Employees— 6 13 gal/day/employee (6 employees* 13 gpd * 2/7) = 22 gpd
weekend
Commercial N/A 125 gal/day 125 gpd
Kitchen —
Gathering (two 150 5 gal/day/member (150 members* 5 gpd * 24/365) = 49 gpd
per month)
New Year's Eve 210 5 gal/day/member (210 members * 5 gpd * 1/365) = 3 gpd
Event(annual)
Note: gpd is gallons per day. 5/7 is a conversion for the 5-day week. 2/7 is a conversion for the weekend. 24/365 is a conversion
for a twice-monthly event. 1/365 is a conversion for an annual event.
For the subject property, the total daily waste water quantity is 593 gallons per day. Of these
593 gallons, 468 gallons are attributed to restroom use, and 125 gallons are attributed to the
commercial kitchen.
The average total nitrogen concentration of domestic waste water is normally considered to be
20-85 mg/L-N with 35 to 45 mg/L-N being typical (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998). It is
estimated that commercial use will have higher concentrations of total nitrogen when compared
to residential use; in this case, 85 mg/L-N has been selected for restroom use.
