).. H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES
_ File No. 20-2925-01
June 16, 1987
Page 3
obtaining relatively undisturbed soil samples for visual examination, classification and
laboratory testing. Soil samples were obtained by driving a 2-inch inside diameter
sampler into the soil using a 140-pound hammer falling approximately 30 inches. The
number of blows required to advance the sampler are presented on the Logs of
Borings, Plates III through VI, at the corresponding sample locations.
SOIL CONDITIONS
The soil conditions encountered at the locations explored generally consist of very
stiff to hard partly cemented very sandy silt with occasional sandy clay lenses. These
soils extended to the maximum depths explored and generally became more cemented
with depth.
No free groundwater was encountered in the borings drilled. It is possible,
however, that groundwater conditions at the site could change at some time in the
future due to variations in rainfall, groundwater withdrawal, construction activities, or
other factors not apparent at the time our test borings were drilled.
The above is a general summary of the soil and groundwater conditions
encountered in the test borings drilled for this investigation. A more detailed
description of the soils encountered in each boring are noted on the Logs of Borings.
All soils have been classified according to the Unified Soil Classification System
described on Plate II.
LABORATORY TESTING
Laboratory tests were performed on selected samples obtained from the exploratory
borings in order to evaluate the moisture and density characteristics of the soils
encountered. The tests performed consisted of Moisture Content and Dry Density
Determinations. The results are noted on the Logs of Borings at the corresponding
