UNDEkvROUND TANK INSTALLATION Page 5
Design for Anchorage Against Buoyancy Z ign
STEP 11 -Determine the Number of Anchor Straps
Divide the Total Anchorage Load by the Allowable Load per Anchor Strap to determine the
minimum number of anchor straps required. The Allowable Load per Anchor Strap must
be provided by the anchor strap manufacturer. Round the minimum number of anchor
straps up to the nearest whole number.
Allowable Load
® per Anchor Strap . 3j, ZOO lbs
4 lbs. The desired spacing is the tank length divided by the number of straps. If an
odd number of straps are used, one strap should be located on the tank centerline or within
17'of the tank centerline if there is an obstruction at the centerline. If the center strap
cannot be located within these criteria then increase the number of straps by one.
Even number of straps used? 0 Yes ❑ No
If yes then enter the number of straps in 53 below and calculate the strap spacing.
If no then answer the following question.
Can the center strap be located within 17'of the tank centerline? ❑ Yes ❑ No
If yes then enter the number of straps used in 53 below.
If no, then increase the number of straps used in(52)by one and enter this number in(53)below.
© Z NUMBER OF ANCHOR STRAPS USED
ft. Anchor straps may be moved t 5% from this spacing to avoid tanktop obstructions.
STEP 13 -Obtain Deadman Anchor Design from a Qualified Professional
From a qualified design professional obtain a design of the deadman anchors, anchor attachment hardware, and
embedded hardware including the size, style, and material specifications of each component The design must also
include specifications for corrosion protection of the entire system assembly including the straps, attachment hardware,
and embedded hardware. Also, the qualified design professional should provide a drawing showing the size, shape,
reinforcement, and location of the deadman anchors and the details of installation of the entire anchor system.
o insure consistency in the design, provide the qualified design professional with a copy of Form A describing the details
of the installation including the tank dimensions, Burial Depth, Design Groundwater Depth, the Design Uplift Force,
Holddown Provided by Installation, Total Anchorage Load, Anchor Strap Specifications,Allowable Load per Anchor Strap,
Number of Straps Used, Anchor Strap Spacing, and a drawing showing any obstructions on the tanktop.
