The physical location is 1320 West Weber Street, City of Stockton,
Count`j of San Joaquin, California(Figure 1).
This facility manufactures ice and provides cold and frozen storage in two main
warehouse buildings on the site. Site topography is generally flat lying. Most of the
site is covered by asphalt and concrete pavement. The Union site is nearly surrounded
by the Stockton Deep Water Channel to the North and Mormoi, Slough to the South.
Surface elevation is approximately 97 feet A,M.S.C.
Fc ur underground storage tanks were removed at the facility in December 1988.
During removal of the tanks, gasoline, approximately four to sic inches thick, was
found floating on ground water encountered in the bottom of the excavation. The
amount of gasoline which leaked is unknown.
2.0 SCOPE OF WORD
In March of 1989, UR.S Consultants (URS) were retained by Union Ice Company to
perform a remedial investigation. Their work plan was designed to investigate the
lateral and vertical extent of gasoline contamination of ground water at the site, along
with the implementation of remedial measures. (Refer to "Ground water Investigation
Work Plan for Union Ice Company, March 13, 1989," URS Consultants).
------ — -
The URS proposal called-for-l0-monitoring wells to be drilled,-in-order.to mvestiga -T_- --- ---_-- - - -_-- --
both the first and secocsd aquifers. Three of these wells,MW-1D, MW-1S and MW-6S
were completed on August 28, 1989.
