15 feet bgs had been reached. During the removal of the tanks at both
sites, ground water was reported to be present in the excavations
Apparently, the ground water that entered the tank excavations was
the result of localized inducement of vertical ground water flow due
to the creation of the pit during tank removal. This phenomenon is
frequently encountered in excavations. This "perched" ground water
was then encountered during the installation of the two monitoring
well borings mentioned above (MW-5 and MW-2A
Potentiometnc surface maps prepared individually for Sites #1 and
#2 have consistently portrayed ground water flow directions toward
the south-southwest. The individual data from both saes provide
mutually supporting data interpretations. The apparent cause of the
flow direction is the Stockton Deep Water Channel that lies
immediately adjacent to the northern site property line. Tidally
induced water level fluctuations in the channel appear to be the
cause of slight-to-moderate variations in the ground water flow
gradient.
Ground water wells are a common source of potable water in the
Great Valley geomorphic province. However, no water supply wells
are located within a 2,000-foot radius of the West Weber sites.
I
2-3
