1
SECTION 3
TANK REMOVAL AND INVESTIGATION:
FORMER TANK SITE #3
' This section discusses the removal and closure of the underground
storage tank located at Former Tank Site #3 (1541 West Weber
' Avenue). In addition, it describes the preparation for removal
activities, the removal of the tank, confirmatory sampling laboratory
analyses, and the findings.
1
Preparation
'
Preliminary work included preparing an Underground Storage Tank
Closure Plan and site-specific Health and Safety Plan (Appendix A),
' and retaining a contractor responsible for tank removal. Preparatory
work also included surveying the tank site, obtaining the necessary
permits, and locating underground utilities. These activities are
described further below
Tank&irvev
Because "as-built" tank location information was unavailable, the
tank site was surveyed by Spectrum Environmental Geophysics on
' June 19, 1991 Spectrum was able to precisely locate the tank, and to
determine the orientation, size, depth, and approximate quantity of
fluid remaining in the tank (Appendix B)
' The former underground storage tank located at Site #3 is shown in
Figure 3-1. The tank had a capacity of 2,000 gallons; approximately
' 100 gallons of product, tentatively identified as gasoline, remained in
the tank. The top of the tank was approximately 3-112 feet below the
ground surface; the bottom was at a depth of approximately 9 112 feet
' bgs.
1
The Underground Storage Tank Closure Plan specified the steps that
would be followed in removing the tank. The removal entailed
' emptying, inerting, excavating, and removing the tank, sampling
and backfilling the excavation; and repaving the affected area. The
contractor responsible for removal activities was Jim Dobbas, Inc.
3-1
