1
' Two soil samples were collected from approximately two feet below
each end of the tank. The samples were collected by sub-sampling
soil collected by the backhoe bucket from under each end of the tank.
No petroleum odor was noted during excavation and sampling.
Ground water was not encountered in the tank excavation.
' The samples were transported under chain-of-custody to Enseco-Cal
Labs in West Sacramento, an environmental laboratory certified by
the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC).
' Enseco analyzed the samples for constituents according to the
guidelines provided by San Joaquin County. The samples were tested
for the following constituents of concern:
' • Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) as Gasoline and Diesel;
' • Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes (BTEX),
0 Ethylene Dibromide (EDB), and
• Total Lead.
The results of the analyses are summarized and presented in
Table 3-1. No constituents of concern, with the exception of lead,
were detected in either soil sample above the detection limits. The
concentrations of lead detected in both samples are consistent with
' background concentrations of lead in area soils Copies of the
laboratory report and chain-of-custody forms are contained in
Appendix F
and Paving
The tank excavation was backfilled on the same day that the tank was
removed. The soils removed during excavation of the tank were used
' for backfill material. Additional clean fill material was added as
needed. As the pit was backfilled, the material was compacted, and
the area was then paved with asphalt.
Summary of Findings
1
The tank formerly located at Former Tank Site #3 appeared to be in
good condition when it was removed. No constituents of concern
were found in the soils surrounding the tank, and no ground water
was encountered in the tank excavation. The presence of lead in soil
3-4
