SECTION 3 INVESTIGATION ACTIVITIES Four groundwater monitoring wells were constructed by ERM-West, �\ Inc on March 27 and 28, 1992. The wells labeled MW-1A through MW-4A were installed in locations to obtain the maximum amount of information to characterize the soils and groundwater at the site (Figure 1-2) One well (MW-2A) was located at the approximate center of the former tank location Wells MW-1A and MW-3A were installed to the north and east of the former tank location, respectively MW-4A was installed inside the warehouse building to the south of the former tank location The wells surrounding the former UST location were placed in a triangular pattern so that a 3-point determination of groundwater gradient could be made Preparation Preliminary work included: preparing an Investigation Work Plan; preparing a site-specific Health and Safety Plan; and retaining a contractor responsible for drilling and laboratory activities Preparatory work also included obtaining the necessary permits, locating underground utilities, and relocating the soil stockpile that was situated above the former UST. The Investigation Work Plan specified the steps that would be followed to install the monitoring wells (Appendix C) A copy of the request letter from San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division is included the Work Plan (Appendix C). The contractor responsible for the drilling activities was Spectrum Exploration, Inc., located in Stockton, California Jim Dobbas, Inc was utilized to move the soil pile that overlies the site of the UST excavation. ERM-West was responsible for overall site management and submittal of documentation.
